There are several ETFs available for European exposure, and while they all have their differences, they are all heavily invested in the financial sector and the U.K. is the largest country weight.
For exchange traded fund (ETF) portfolios there are many factors to take into consideration. For instance, foreign exposure, asset class, reducing volatility or adding some yield. All of these can be answered by big-cap Europe, which has utility in the context of a diversified portfolio.
There are a lot of ETFs now that invest in big-cap Europe and we have listed them in this portfolio.

ADRU
Powershares Excha - $17.0627
- -2.05%
- $17.29
The BLDRs Europe 100 ADR Index Fund (ADRU) is a remarkably small fund, for being four years old, with only $35 million in assets. It owns the 100 stocks that make up the Bank of New York Europe 100 ADR Index. It would be easy to read through that name without noticing something I think is important, which is that it owns only ADRs. Some numbers: ADRU yields 2.04%, has a beta of 0.95, a standard deviation of 9.49 and has a 0.70 correlation to the S&P 500

-
EFA
Ishares Msci Eafe - $44.41
- -1.73%
- $44.85
iShares MSCI EAFE Index Fund (EFA) is the most popular and people usually don't look past this one when they want european exposure through an ETF.

-
VGK
Vangrd European E - $38.66
- -1.83%
- $38.99
The Vanguard European ETF (VGK) has 621 holdings and the lowest expense ratio, 0.18%.

-
FEU
Dj Stoxx 50 Etf - $28.81
- -1.77%
- $29.17
The streetTracks Dow Jones Stoxx 50 (FEU) has surprisingly few assets being four-years-old. This fund is much more concentrated than the others with only 50 holdings; the biggest of the European big stocks. The average weighted market cap is $109 billion. The top two holdings, again BP and HSBC, account for 10% of the fund.

-
DEB
Wisdomtree Eur Td - $35.93
- -1.16%
- $36.15
WisdomTree Europe Dividend Index Fund (DEB) has 1088 holdings weighted by dividends

-
DEW
Wisdomtree Eu Hi - $33.43
- -1.62%
- $33.90
WisdomTree Europe High-Yielding Equity Index Fund (DEW) is a sort of subset of DEB. DEW owns the 313 biggest dividend payers out of the 1088 holdings in DEB.

-
IEV
Ishare Sp Eur 350 - $31.18
- -1.17%
- $31.38
One of the bigger funds in the space is the iShares S&P Europe 350 Index Fund (IEV). It is obviously very broad based. Like all of these funds, the U.K. is the largest country and the financial sector is by far the largest. BP and HSBC are the two largest holdings. The fund is very unremarkable except that it has been the best performing of the bunch since the listing of the two WisdomTree funds. IEV only yields 1.83%, has a beta of 0.94, a standard deviation of 9.03 and a 0.72 correlation to the S&P 500.
