Date updated:12-22-2007
This is a portfolio of the stocks which I've come to believe have long term value. I'm limiting myself to 20 positions here, so this must be diverse. I'm really focused on industry/sector diversification, not cap.
If I were to construct a new "buy and hold" portfolio this is something like what it would be. Tracking to see if I'm any good at it (so far the answer is "No", but I think that it's a timing issue, so I'm looking to get out of that). I'll update this a bit as time goes on cause I don't have time to do it all tonight. This will be predominately a US equity portfolio for now but I intend to expand it later to include ROW.
12/21/07 - Not doing so well since inception but I'm letting it ride. Some dogs in the bunch, but I want to see a full-year.

GOOG
Google - $444.25
- -1.33%
- $445.57
I believe this stock may be the single best stock selection between now and 2010.

-
JWN
Nordstrom Inc - $32.56
- +1.78%
- $31.45
I think Nordstrom understands the customer better than any other retailer in the market, and can continue to demand a premium price point until we hit a recession -- maybe even beyond. I might swap this out for JCP in the future, but I have the low/mid retail covered with SHLD now.

-
TXN
Texas Instruments - $22.64
- +1.07%
- $21.86
As stated elsewhere, I think this is the single best semi play over the next 10 years.

-
MSFT
Microsoft Cp - $25.65
- -2.66%
- $26.03
ditto software

-
USG
U S G Cp - $26.07

- $26.01
Building will come back eventually, and this stock has significant value there.

-
CAT
Caterpillar Inc - $64.07
- +0.20%
- $63.79
Infrastructure will continue to ramp for at least five more years in the US (have you looked at the roads here recently?), and in BRIC it's likely 10.

-
GS
Goldman Sachs Grp - $163.24
- +1.45%
- $157.77
Best non-bank financial.

-
WFC
Wells Fargo & Co - $31.20
- +5.16%
- $29.57
Best bank.
