Cramer said as long as there is terrorism, there will be counter-terrorism, and that means high demand for X-ray scanners that can detect bombs and explosives, which is exactly what American Science manufactures in both mobile and fixed location forms. He said the company is a pure play on these high-tech scanners, which translates into high margins and high profits.

Applied Signal, which counts the CIA and NSA as clients, is the best pure play on the industry, Cramer said. APSG is “well positioned” and has “a lot of good contract opportunities coming up,” not the least of which are potential deals with both the Army and the Marines. Plus, the company recently won a five-year, $200 million contract to supply an unnamed customer, believed to be the NSA, with communications intelligence.

FLIR Systems' sales grew 50% last year, said Cramer, and with 38% of its sales now coming from overseas, the company is rapidly becoming a global powerhouse. With many new cameras in development that are smaller and use less power, Cramer said the possibilities for FLIR are endless. FLIR trades at just 18.8 times its earnings, but has a 19% long-term growth rate. Cramer said he's use any dips in the market as a good entry point to buy into the company.

  • $9.15

Cogent is a pure play on finger-print technology, as the company mainly administers the U.S. Visitor's Program, which helps speed frequent fliers through customs. This company too has a lot of room for growth, said Cramer, as it competes for contracts from the U.S. Army, the U.K. Post Office and others. Among the two, Cramer said Cogent is the safer bet, with $5.86 a share in cash on the books, while L-1 Identity Solutions is risker with less cash and more debt.

He explained that L-1 Identity Solutions has technology that moves beyond fingerprints, to identify people by their faces, irises and beyond. The company has equipment in Iraq and Afghanistan, and is working to secure business for driver's licenses in the state of New York as well as the Mexican national ID program.
