DRI
Darden Restaurant - $31.44
- -0.82%
- $31.40
“Take a look at Darden Restaurants' (DRI) results. Red Lobster and Olive Garden simply can't achieve that kind of growth if we are going into a depression. No way. Nor would Macy's (M) get that credit agreement. Nor would Panera Bread (PNRA) beat numbers. These are all signs that the world is not falling off a cliff, and they have to be duly noted. You can't just say "they are outliers," as they are way too prominent to dismiss. I genuinely believe that these are direct plays on lower gasoline and higher disposable income. The footrace in 2009 will be all about the people who have more disposable income from refinancing/lower heating bill/gasoline vs. the people who lose their jobs. These are hopeful signs. You would see down mid single digits to high single digits at Olive Garden and Red Lobster if it were the end of the world, and, again, there's no way Panera could beat the numbers and no way JPMorgan Chase (JPM) would continue to lend to Macy's. Just good data points.”
