Cramer recently pointed out that Apple can’t seem to shake the gloom. “How about the collapse of Apple (AAPL), even as Joe Nocera revealed in this Saturday's New York Times that Steve Jobs called him and said unequivocally that he is not seriously sick? What the heck happened here? How come this rumor, which dogged the stock and knocked it down, didn't drive the stock back up when it was disproved? I think that's because Apple is an event stock. It goes up in the event of what is thought to be a big quarter or a big product launch, and then it does nothing until the next big thing or event. Apple had a huge run into the iPhone and 3G. Its bullishness was augmented by the bullishness that AT&T (T) signaled about the blow-away sales. For which I say, "So what?" What's next? I don't see anything other than a Research In Motion (RIMM) launch next month that will feature as much Apple-bashing as there was RIMM-bashing around the Apple launch. Apple is a unique catalyst stock. It tends to go down after every catalyst occurs because of the run-up. This time turned out to be no different, and the sellers are not mollified by a new health report from Jobs and The New York Times. I forecast more pressure ahead.”
