Telecom and other tech stocks were making headlines on Wednesday, with AT&T (T) revealing its netbook plan, which includes a couple of mini-laptop offerings from Dell (DELL), and news that Verizon (VZ) is fortifying its and partnership with Cisco (CSCO).
In other news, education company Apollo Group (APOL), one of TheStreet.com Ratings' top 5 large-caps for March 25 and the recipient of a bearish call from James Altucher on Monday, lost more than 15% on Wednesday to close at $66.46. It reported better-than-expected earnings on Tuesday, but it also warned of increasing bad debt expense, earning the stock a downgraded from a Robert W. Baird analyst.

With this in mind, we thought we'd take a look at some of the stocks in the news on Wednesday and see what Jim Cramer's had to say about them.

"Apollo? Suddenly they don't like it? I am wary of this stock going down hard, because those who believe in the secular growth of the online education segment will not stop here and be deterred by this contrary indicator to their thesis." ("New Is One Thing, and Trading Is Another," April 1)

Even though the company is going to replenish its oil reserves -- if you believe the company -- what's the point of recommending an oil company if you think that oil is going down appreciably?"
