"Is a sucker born every minute in this market, or are the Chinese at last ready to start putting their cash hoards to work?" - Jim Cramer

F
Ford Motor Co - $8.81

- $8.87
That's how I look at Geely Holding Group's move to buy Ford's (F) "ailing" Volvo unit. I put in the word "ailing" because I couldn't resist the cliche.

CHL
China Mobile Limi - $48.78
- -0.31%
- $48.64
Given that Chinese companies still have market caps, the moment of the Volvo deal gains real significance. Let's take the two obvious ones. China Mobile (CHL) has a market cap of $115 billion. Couldn't you see that scooping up the $7 billion Motorola (MOT) or even the $54 billion Qualcomm (QCOM).

MOT
Motorola Inc - $8.28

PTR
Petrochina Co Ads - $130.13

- $129.07
How about PetroChina (PTR) at $263 billion? Given how voracious China is about accumulating oil assets, don't you think the $14 billion Anadarko (APC) or the $16 billion XTO (XTO) would be targets.

-
APC
Anadarko Petroleu - $62.37

WHR
Whirlpool Cp - $75.45
- +2.53%
- $74.21
You have to admit that for the shorts, there is simply zero resistance right now or fear about shorting pretty much anything. When you can take companies like Whirlpool (WHR), another good brand, to $1.6 billion, or Black & Decker (BDK) to $1.3 billion, you have to think that the Chinese must be wondering whether those two brand names aren't worth something to them.
