From 7-30-07:
This weekend, I had the good fortune to go over lots of the quarters that got reported and to read the conference-call transcripts more thoroughly. Let me give you my takes on things. Just some comments about what companies really reported now that the rush is gone and numbers can be studied.

-
HON
Honeywell Intl In - $38.47
- -0.03%
- $38.36
Put Honeywell (HON) in the camp of Boeing (BA), a quarter that was much better than expected. The buyback will be there endlessly. United Technologies (UTX) was amazingly strong; I just don't think the domestic economy can contain it.

-
GLW
Corning Inc - $16.68
- +0.60%
- $16.66
Corning (GLW) had an excellent quarter. People are dead wrong to sell it. Plus, when it can mass-produce the diesel engine and the fiber that can bend products -- should be all next year -- the stock will explode upward.

-
SLB
Schlumberger Ltd - $63.89
- +1.53%
- $62.50
The Schlumberger (SLB) quarter remains the best of the majors that I saw, as the business is on fire and has little exposure to the U.S.

-
XOM
Exxon Mobil Cp - $75.07
- +0.27%
- $74.49
Exxon's (XOM) quarter was good; it just needs to drill more. Conoco's (COP) was much better and deserves to be higher.

-
MDC
M D C Holdings - $29.69
- 0.00%
- $N/A
The homebuilder quarters were all horrible except for M.D.C. Holdings (MDC).

-
GE
Gen Electric Co - $16.02
- +0.50%
- $15.82
General Electric's (GE) quarter is looking better and better as an infrastructure play, as its orders were bigger than almost anyone's except ABB (ABB).

-
CROX
Crocs - $4.87
- -4.88%
- $5.12
Crocs (CROX) had an amazing quarter with a level of momentum unseen in most equities.

-
CAT
Caterpillar Inc - $58.39
- +1.64%
- $57.82
Caterpillar (CAT) wasn't bad at all and has the possibility to surprise to the upside next quarter.

A. Use a market order. I usually use
market orders if I want something. You
may not get the exact low of the day,
but you will be close enough to a good
entry.
I know a lot of people are against
market orders but realistically, you
want to own the stock because you
believe it is going higher right? If you
think that the all time high will occur
if you use a market order than you're
probably late.
