I realized that I need a method to keep notes and force myself to listen or read conference calls. By setting this up I will have quick access to my notes and allow me to blog on them and make my comments. I am starting this 9/12/07...kind of fitting.
ALSO I AM GOING TO PUT A STAR SYSTEM OF 0 TO 5 ON WHAT I THINK OF THE COMPANY BASED ON THE CONFERENCE CALL ONLY, THEN TRAK IT...THIS IS GOING TO BE SUCH A GREAT JR. STOCKPICKR LESSON..CLASS OF 2007 RULES!!!!!!
Zero Star...Company won't be in business for very long
One Star...NO earnings at all...and is not a biotech or spec
Two Stars...Company does have some earnings or if spec/biotech has ok plans
Three Stars...Company is a solid and may have some problems but they are addressing them.
Four Stars...Company can be really really good if they can just fix a couple of things..also spec/biotech about to break out
Five Stars...Sweet, nuff said.

Formation of 2K Play- Nickelodeon games. Sports 2K should be profitable by next year. ***Wells Notice from DA..4 yr ago conduct, looking to settle it and civil suit..already spent 15 Mil. Q3 LOSS 206 vs 241 last yr. But indicated like Cisco they have had an increase in business vs competition CNET which hasn't made a profit. Had Bandwidth shortage.Network of Websites serve 32 million visitors per month. This Company was beaten up bad after the qtr. was missed. CEO Jenab- 4th qtr was a challenge because we did not have enough bandwidth in our sales organization. The Biz needs to HIRE people. 35% growth of revenue $45.6 v 33.7, Media 17.5 v 13.2. They had problems in July and early Aug because of the reluctance to run campaigns. Do Biz w/ big names VM Ware, AT & T, AMZN. Ecommerce is R/C Helicopters and Clocky the Alarm Clock at ThinkGeek 34% 5.2 v 3.9 ...estimate .01 profit for '08.

They have a problem with DVD's being stolen via 5 finger discount, also.Hey, and they are going to have a Borders.com in 2008. CEO Jones- Improved comp store sales..even after taking out the Harry Potter Stuff. Bargin Books and Kid Books sell the best. Also, last minute impulse items...as the CEO would say...Merchandise Presentation is big for the turn around for this company. #'s -15.3 vs - 14.5, goal is for comp sales low to mid single digits. Same store sale 4.6% and sales 945.1 v 913.5

Nymph Take Away: Smithfield is doing very well with moving into Central and Western Europe. Corn Cost are Hedged. Having problems with margins and their Hogs. CEO Pope- 62 v 39.9, .47 v .36, but the price reflects operations that have been sold and brought. The got Butterball from CAG. The CEO found the Joint Venture w/Oaktree Capital Management involving Western Europe joint venture as VERY, VERY pleased. The group is Groupe Smithfield and Armour Eckrich. Fresh Pork not good but process meats rock..26% increase. Also pre-cooked catogories good. Poland is solid. SWINE FEVER in Romania. Corn Prices having an impact but hedged. The CEO HATES the last years numbers and indicates that beating them is no big deal. Sales 3.4 B v 2.8 B, Operating Profits $147 v 99 mil. EBITDA (ttm) 725 v 654. 320 mil increase in debt to 3.4 B (for Europe). Company HAD increase it's float for purchase and take debt of 500 m at a 10 yr note at 7.75%. Cattle feeding looses $$. Groupe Smithfield- Romania, Mexico, Spain. Hogs sell over $50 to feed under $50 but won't tell hedge amount. HAMS in Japan and Russia..China in trouble, they NEED Hogs but have a disease problem w/ PEARS in their Pigs.

Nymph Take Away: There may be less Funeral Calls but this Biz is running up the tab on the calls they do get. But have to watch out for more people going to lower cost cremations. CEO Crawford- .08 v .07, diluted. 8.1 v 7.3...REVENUE DOWN 128.3 v 129.3 but they indicated that last year they got a lot of insurance $$ from Katrina biz loss.Profits rose by 11%. CEO indicated that there were fewer funeral calls across the industry. Same Store Funeral calls 1/2 % during 3 month ending 7/31...and 2.6% down fiscal year to date.Using non GAAP gross profits up 36% after adjusting for all the Katrina $$ payout insurance...and 18-20% growth.Cemetary Cost Up..due to $$ from installment prepay accounts, and more addition of land. Company got rid of debt. 7.7 mil repurchase..but used debt to do it..they indicated if they do it again it will be with only Cash Flow. They are getting a .01 eps for a tax settlement w/ Porta Rico. CEO is not from the industry but he and others are learning the biz. They are hoping to have their New Orleans biz opening soon and they are catching up collecting on bad debt caused by Katrina. Industry is expected to have a growth of 16%...14% eps.

Nymph Take Away: When the CEO is saying this is a exciting place and he is talking about funeral homes..they must mean good numbers. He also says the trend is our friend. They are buying independant bizs. CEO-Payne (perfect name)-Revenue increases 12%, Diluted EPS 333%, 41.7 M v 37.3 M. Consolidated EBITDA 9.6 M v 7.6 M. Diluted EPS .10 v .03. The company has switched over to Trend Reporting and now report consolidated field operating and financial results both on a multi-year & most recent rolling qtrs. basis. They have been doing this for 2 qtrs.Another good Qtr..Even though there has been a same store volume decline consistent w/a period of weak death rates nationally..funeral averages are up..4.6% average (burial and cremation). 16 yr. old company which has 135 funeral homes in 27 states. Company does not want to borrow money to make acqusitions. They state they want to use their own cash! Looking in the LA area to buy...had 7% increase from prior acquired biz.

Uncle Sam has been hitting them hard on their profits of the Sales. CEO Ryan..He says good qtr. BUT disappointing second qtr-40.8% loss in earnings 15.1 M v 25.5 M (the street was looking for 32.7). Divestitures- selling its interest in a French joint venture, which along w/other selling is going to be used to fund a share repurchase program. There was a high tax rate due to the nature of the sale. Sales should be done around 2008...and will be cutting biz in a way that if the City has 18 locations they will go down to 16. They are focusing on developing the properties and inventory.Indicated fewer funerals. 3qtr is the slowest for death. 4th and 1st are the best for the dying biz.Company is combining Alderwood into their system, Alderwood was coming out of bankrupcy when purchased.Company wants to see more preneed contracts. 4.8% increase in total funeral averages (fiuneral 2.8%).Divident of .03 will be paid to shareholders on record of 10/15/07.Share repurchased increased. Located in 45 states, 1500 funeral homes.32.4 M v 28.4 M. Diluted EPS .11 v .10. Earnings in 1st 6 months of 2007 84.1 M v 58.9...(.28 v .20 eps). Consolidated revenues increased 34.3 % to Approx 1.2 Billion in 1 st 6 months of 2007. Consolidated gross profits of 6 months 20.8% v 19.8%. Cash Flow in 1st 6 months 191.6 M v 151.6 M.

Nymph Take Away: These Guys were so Happy..Only a couple of questions because everything was GOOD NEWS! CEO Miller-Revenue 40.664 v 28,292 thousand. Oper Profit 7,030 v 3.077. Net income 4,663 v 1,080. Free Cash Flow 8,141 v 2,486. Revenue 43.8%. Located in 21 States, 27 Funeral Homes, 178 Cemetaries. The Company is a structured partnership.Strong 2nd Qtr. even with having to include cost to employee operation. MADE acqusitions and that the benefit has not yet peaked. April bought 2 more and looking for more. CFO said great qtr. and the performance will continue. Preneed contracts up. Funeral homes 100% up. Cutting Corp Overhead by decreasing Employee Benefits and having employees pay higher co-pays.Revenue Recognition takes time to show. More Contracts, more $ into trust fund. GOOD NEWS!!
