As has been noted before, the Brazilian economy is being supported by a number of positive secular trends, many of which are discussed at the following link: http://www.stockpickr.com/view/answers/14752/
For those unable to view the link above, the basic premise is that inflation has died down to historic lows in Brazil. This, in turn, has led to historically low interest rates, which is spurring never-before-seen demand for loans. Low and more stable inflation has also helped private sector planning to become more efficient, further aiding corporate profitability and pivate wealth. Given the nations' positive demographic trends, natural resources, and the like, the long-term outlook for the nation appears very bright.
In other words, the final outcome of this long, virtuous circle should be rising wealth and corporate profitability, as well as reduced reliance on exports (in other words, an increasingly domestic-driven economy). Please note that the aformentioned happenings seem especially positive for financial institutions (banks)/real estate companies.
Given these strong trends, I have decided to list all the Brazilian ADR's listed on the NYSE, NASDAQ, and/or AMEX below. The purpose of this is to give you a master list through which you can "sift through" to get ideas. Note that I am not explicitly recommending any of the following companies, and you should do your own homework before buying.
Warning: Before purchasing Brazilian companies, note that they have increased incredibly over the past several years. Also, the Real (the Brazilian currency) is incredibly volatile. Given that your returns are partly a function of how the Real does against the Dollar, purchasing Brazilian companies could lead to large losses, especially in the event that a global "crisis" occurs, spurring a movement towards safety. Finally, before purchasing any company listed below, you should consult your broker/financial advisor about whether the risks imbedded in the company are suitable to your needs. By listing the following companies, I am in no way advocating your purchase of them, and simply am listing them as a "reference point."
