Summary of the bullish and bearish positions mentioned in the May 3rd, 2008 Barron's.

-
MPEL
Melco Crown Enter - $5.93
- +0.85%
- $5.69
Shares of Melco PBL Entertainment could rise 50% or more as China indulges its love of gambling.

-
GD
General Dynamics - $59.98
- 0.00%
- $59.28
General Dynamics could sell off when the company names a new CEO, but he -- or she -- will inherit a well-oiled machine. That's why some analysts think the stock could top 100 in about a year.

BRK.A
Brk.a - $0.00
- N/A
- $N/A
Right now, Berkshire's stock looks fairly valued, with the Class A shares (BRK.A) changing hands for $133,400 apiece. Late last year, in contrast, the shares were at a lofty $143,000, prompting Barron's to write a bearish cover story ("Sorry, Warren, Your Stock's Too Pricey," Dec. 17, 2007). Berkshire now is valued at 1.7 times its year-end 2007 book value of $78,000, and at 22 times projected 2008 operating profits of $6,000 per Class A share. Berkshire has a higher valuation than many insurers based on book value and earnings, but it deserves a premium, given its financial strength and its incomparable leadership.

POT
Potash Corp. Of S - $116.39
- 0.00%
- $117.60
The fertilizer stocks are still not particularly expensive, and they've tended to undergo nasty corrections all the way up. Potash, for one, has had a handful of 15% drops, such as the one just sustained, since early 2007. Unlike the crop processors Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) and Bunge (BG), which are price-taking middlemen akin to oil refiners, the fertilizer companies are part of any long-term solution to improving crop yields. It's probably too early to bet that these stocks have seen their ultimate peak.

MOS
Mosaic Co (the) - $55.97

- $56.57

NSRGY.PK
Nestle Sa Reg Shr - $37.14
- +0.57%
- $36.79
Nestlé looks undervalued, compared with some of its big competitors in the global food industry. Some bulls expect the shares to rise 20% over the next 12 months.

-
PTV
Pactiv Corp. - $23.03
- 0.00%
- $23.14
But relief might be in sight, since the company recently locked in a round of price hikes. At about 24, shares are trading at 12.7 times projected 2008 earnings, compared with 13.4 times for the sector and 14.4 times for paper packaging stocks. Pactiv and its ilk could well rebound if oil pulls back and if the dollar stabilizes.

-
GEF
Greif Inc - $49.76
- +2.75%
- $48.48
Greif makes industrial packaging products for customers in industries from chemicals to agriculture. While it is a global leader in steel and fiber drums, its market share in China, for example, is only in the single-digits, which augurs well for further growth. While the stock has risen about 500% over the past five years, to about 63 recently, Manuel argues it can still trudge higher with cost savings, organic growth and acquisitions.
