From Barron's 6-18-07:
Fred Hickey is author of the High-Tech Strategist newsletter.
Hickey was very cautious about the stock market in January of 2007. He sold most of his tech stocks late 2006 and went to a max defensive position. He likes precious metals, cash and the following short stock picks.
In Barron’s mid-year 2007 Roundtable, published in the magazine's June 18th issue, Hickey offers his take on the market (he is still bearish) and a SHORT recommendations:
"The year isn't over. It is a perpendicular market, a manic market, the kind of market that precedes a crash, and that is what I expect." He is recommending 2year treasuries.

Netlogic Microsys - $22.97
- +4.93%
- $21.97
From Barron's 6-18-07: Fred Hickey says this is a great SHORT. "On the negative sid, I'm shorting NetLogic Microsystems [NETL], again through puts. NetLogic is a semiconductor company that provides components mostly to the network-equipment market. Cisco Systems [CSCO] generated two-thirds of their revenue in the latest quarter...New competitors are moving in, including Integrated Device Technology [IDTI] and Renesas, a Japanese semiconductor company. They are undercutting NetLogic on price and Cisco is diversifying its supplier base. Worst of all, Cisco recently bought SpansLogic, a direct competitor to NetLogic. NetLogic trades for 30. It is selling for 6.5 times sales and 30 times this year's estimated earnings."
