MSD Capital, the investment vehicle of Dell (DELL) founder Michael Dell, intends to talk to DineEquity about hiring a new financial chief, among other things. (Thomas G. Conforti resigned last week as DineEquity's financial chief.) MSD also plans to have talks with the company regarding debt repayment, changes in its capitalization and dividend policy, and disposition of company restaurants, among other things. MSD beneficially holds 2.51 million shares (14.4% of the total outstanding).

Trian Partners, Nelson Peltz's hedge fund, reported purchases of additional Triarc Cos. (TRY) shares, bringing Trian's stake in Triarc's Class A stock to 40.35% and Class B stock to 24.81%. Since Monday, Trian and its affiliated funds have purchased a total of 440,000 Class A shares for about $2.27 million and 920,000 Class B shares for about $4.8 million, according to a filing with the SEC. Peltz, the Triarc chairman and former CEO, had disclosed earlier this month that he intended to increase his stake in the company to be created by the pending merger of Triarc and Wendy's International (WEN).

Global Cash Access Holdings (GCA) ValueAct Capital reported ownership of 4,338,411 shares (5.6%) of Global Cash Access Holdings , after buying 482,100 shares on Sept. 17 and 18 at $4.45 to $4.71 apiece. ValueAct said it acquired the stake for investment purposes, and may propose changes in operations, governance or capitalization.

Mill Road Capital reported ownership of 1,333,156 shares (7.2%), after buying those shares from Aug. 5 to Sept. 22 at prices ranging from $2.83 to $3.84 apiece.

Breeden Capital Management, the hedge fund run by Richard Breeden, a former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, reported ownership of 3,994,162 shares (6.4%) of Hillenbrand after buying 1,053,467 from Aug. 22 to Sept. 18, at prices of $22.01 to $22.99 each.

Sandler O'Neill Asset Management reported owning 1,823,000 shares (5.91%), after buying 948,000 from July 16 to Sept. 11 at $14.01 to $18.11 each.

German company Edelmann GmbH & Co. raised its holdings to about 2.78 million shares (13.5%), from the 1.57 million shares (7.6%) it reported Aug. 9.

A group of funds managed by Mario Gabelli's Gamco Investors increased its position to about 4.19 million shares (7.88%), from 3.66 million (6.88%) held in May.
