Each week Barron's has a 13D Filings column. 13Ds are filed when a fund (usually an activist hedge fund) accumulates more than 5% of a firm and is planning on pushing for change (e.g.a sale of the company, sale of certain assets, a share buyback, or a share dividend) to unlock value.

Fron Barron's 8-25-07: "Bulldog Investors, a hedge fund, submitted a shareholder proposal requesting Municipal Advantage to conduct a self-tender offer at its stock's net asset value. Bulldog Investors said if more than 50% of Municipal Advantage's shares outstanding are tendered, the offer should be canceled and the company should be liquidated. The hedge fund added that now is an appropriate time for Municipal Advantage to conduct a self-tender offer considering that its shares have traded at a discount to its net asset value for years. Bulldog Investors currently holds 1.3 million shares (17.95% of the total outstanding)."

Fron Barron's 8-25-07: "Chapman Capital said that it has started looking into the backgrounds and affiliations of two recently appointed directors of Vitesse. Chapman Capital is seeking to replace all or part of the Vitesse board, and said its investigation targets Willow B. Shire, appointed to the board in June, and Steven P. Hanson. Chapman Capital also said that investigations of Vitesse CEO Christopher R. Gardner, Chairman Edward Rogas and directors Vincent Chan and Alex Daly are expected to follow those of Shire and Hanson Chapman Capital currently owns about 19,452,171 shares (8.7%)."
