From Barron's 7-23-07: "Third Avenue Management expressed its opposition to the company's proposed combination with Bowater (BOW). Another major shareholder of the company, Chapman Capital, said that it will Third Avenue believes that the combination with Bowater isn't in the best interests of Abitibi-Consolidated's shareholders and added that it intends to act accordingly. Third Avenue currently has no plans to solicit proxies from Abitibi-Consolidated's shareholders. Shareholders of the two companies are to exchange their holdings in an all-stock merger of equals to create the combined firm, which will be called AbitibiBowater. Third Avenue owns 54,756,503 shares (12.44%)."
