Each week Barron's has a 13D Filings column. 13Ds are filed when a fund (usually an activist hedge fund) accumulates more than 5% of a firm and is planning on pushing for change (e.g.a sale of the company, sale of certain assets, a share buyback, or a share dividend) to unlock value.

Wintergreen Advisers said it's nominating Dianne Neal for membership to CTO's board of directors, to fill the vacancy created by Bob D. Allen's retirement from the board. The shareholder also submitted the names of Frank O'Connor and Maryanne Connors Brennan as substitute candidates in case Neal's candidacy is unsuccessful. Wintergreen also said it initiated discussions with CTO on maximizing the value of its Daytona properties through direct development or partnerships. Wintergreen currently holds 1,481,474 shares (25.9% of the total outstanding).

Shareholder Daniel Zeff called for LENS to begin an "immediate liquidation" or sale, and to distribute all remaining assets to shareholders. He noted the board's failure to execute a strategic plan, and that "delays in the strategic-review process are damaging shareholder value as the company continues to lose cash from operations." Zeff, who said he may seek board and management changes, holds 496,494 shares (8.4%)

DellaCamera Capital Master Fund wants Enzon to immediately engage an investment bank to explore strategic alternatives, and suggested its own adviser, Goldman Sachs, to explore options for ENZN's remaining commercial operations, including a sale of the commercial operations as a whole. DellaCamera believes the "cash-generating potential of these businesses coupled with the synergies that an acquirer could bring are significant." It also said Enzon's decision to spin off its biotech business into a separate company is "an encouraging first step towards creating value." DellaCamera holds 2,650,304 shares (5.9%).

Blyth (BTH) plans to submit an offer to buy all or substantially all of RedEnvelope's assets in accordance with procedures established by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. In mid-April, RedEnvelope filed a voluntary petition under Chapter 11, soon after announcing it didn't have sufficient funds to continue as a going concern. In early May, the court approved a structure for interested parties to make offers to buy the assets of RedEnvelope, which sells items like jewelry, spa products and toys through its Website. A company trying to sell assets while in Chapter 11 must conduct an auction, to the best price. Blyth currently holds 1,354,000 shares (14.6%).
