I owned American Century Global Gold (BGEIX), a closed end gold mutual fund, until I did this analysis. I'd like to see if it's best to own this, or perhaps an ETF that tracks gold specifically (like GLD), or individual gold stocks owned by BGEIX. I got the latter information from www.morningstar.com, based on their publicly disclosed holdings as of December 31, 2006.
BGEIX portfolio is very heavily weighted towards Canadian gold producers. I'm leaning towards diversifying to Australia, South Africa, and other countries.

Diversified gold mutual fund - the one that I am testing whether to sell or not.

Streettracks Gold - tracks the gold price. Theoretically, one share of GLD tracks to 1/10 of the spot gold price. So if gold trades at $650/ounce, GLD should trade at $65 or so. In practice, I've found that GLD trades a bit lower than that, perhaps due to expenses.

Richard Ness, 57, who heads the Denver-based company's local subsidiary, was acquitted by the Manado District Court of pollution charges last month after a nearly two-year criminal trial. He has filed a civil lawsuit, in Indonesia, against The New York Times, saying he wanted to clear his name following allegations that Newmont Mining Corp. dumped dangerous levels of arsenic and mercury into an Indonesian bay. I held this one for a while. It's been fluctuating between the high 30s and low 50s for years. I think it's a dog.
