Alpine Dynamic Dividend Fund is an open-end fund incorporated in the USA. The Fund seeks high current income in a tax optimized manner with dividend income as an important component of that return and long-term growth of capital. The Fund invests at least 80% of net assets in the equity securities of certain domestic and foreign corporations that pay Quality Dividend Income. The fund also concentrates on companies about to issue special dividends and that are lightly covered, if at all, by analysts. The fund enjoys a 5 star rating from Morningstar and is run by Jill Evans.
Fron a recent Barron's interview (1-8-07): ""We had about 30% of our holdings in international, and so participated in overseas growth, as well as the recent decline in the relative value of the U.S. dollar," comments co-portfolio manager Jill Evans."
From a recent interview with Evans at Brill.com:
"I look at the portfolio like a bowl of stew," says Evans. "The large company steady dividend payers are the base of the stew, the meat and potatoes. The small caps, special situations, and trading strategy are the vegetables and spices."
Evans says that traditionally half of the stock market's returns have come from dividends and she thinks that era is returning again.
With this in mind she tends to look for two types of value/dividend paying companies: core companies with stable growing earnings that can grow their dividend by 10% per year and high yielding companies that are "value with a catalyst" that have the potential to explode to the upside.
