Mr.Cheap's Etfs

Description:

Is an etf really preferable to a actively managed mutual fund or single stock? This is the big question. It shouldn't be with regard to mutual funds, but over approx two thirds of them can't beat the index. I look at it this way. There are a lot of great stocks in a etf that you wouldn't own if you didn't have one.Either you wouldn't know about them, or it wouldn't be practical to own so many. On the other hand, you get a lot of lousy stocks as well. So one cancels out the other and you are still left more or less with the ones you like anyways. Just another way of looking at it.
