US companies thriving in Turkey

Description:

Citigroup recently sent a team to Turkey to gain insight into the Turkish economy, retail landscape, and competitive landscape. Their findings can be summarized as Turkey appearing considerably ahead than other emerging markests such as China and India from a development perspective. The growth in retail can be attributed to the increased purchasing power of the consumer and the increasing percentage of the population that reside in urban centers. Finally, the people demonstrated a strong sense of nationalism and perhaps becoming accepted into the EU is becoming less of a priority. Nonetheless, at this time talks remain on track, with the accession process expected to be completed sometime between 2013 and 2019.
