A: Yield hit 7.75% today. If I wanted to go on margin in my account, the margin interest to
borrow the money would cost less than that! more - Post your own answer

A: in America, only 1 of every 5 people still smoke. in China, the ratio is alot higher.
Americans who haven't quit by now must be irreversibly hooked, so the cash flow should
remain healthy enough to keep up that hefty dividend. it makes MO one of the least risky
picks in a sea of very high risk. MO is alot like a corporate bond, but safer than most
corporate bonds. more - Post your own answer

BABY: Got them at ~21 sold them at ~25 and now they are back at the low 21 due
to a downgrade. Surprisingly, they hardly moved last week even during the insane
market flactuation.
The fundamentals didn't change. Is it a good time to step back in? -

aaple vs. rimm: hard to decide...both are down 20-30% form their highs. Aapl is
doing well but it seems that people are only eyeing the iphone. Rimm has a tough
competition from aapl, but has a few serious phones coming soon (the flip phone
and the storm) which are more consumer oriented. Finally, rimm reports tomorrow
and if their report even hints on something negative both stocks are going to
crash.
So, once again: aapl or rimm (or maybe none)? Thoughts? -

A: Apple has had issues with the Iphone and while that may not be hurting sales dramatically,
it just isn't a handset provider. Look at the broader business and determine if consumers
are spending money on overpriced (my opinion) Macs. RIMM has had phone delays for this new
Bold and while that isn't in the estimates, that makes me very skeptical of their guidance
and their ability to perform. I was disappointed with that last earnings call based on the
elevated expectations from Wall Street. I remain skeptical and I believe the big money has
moved out. Like I said, the momentum is gone and not the place to be now. more - Post your own answer

It seems that this place had become the second Yahoo forum where people are
wasting my time and bandwidth on bashing Cramer.
I'm not here to defend Cramer or to bash him, at the end of the day he is an
analyst. I'm here to get some insight and other people views on the market.
Please don't ruin this forum and go back to Yahoo, you'll find many supporters
there. -

A: Just had a thought. This is just the type of stock that warrants having a hybrid approach
to stock picking. We all know that the fundamentals are sound. But if you buy just based
on fundamentals and ignore TA and the market climate/cycle you'll be burned. A Pickr said
it last week that timing is just as important as price when entering a position. But I
guess I'm not much of a "value" investor. more - Post your own answer

End game for SKF?
SEC moves on short sellers
Tuesday July 15, 2:41 pm ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Securities and Exchange Commission will issue an
emergency rule later on Tuesday to stop "naked" short selling in major financial
firms, including Fannie Mae (NYSE:FNM - News) and Freddie Mac (NYSE:FRE - News),
the SEC said.
Short sellers borrow shares they consider overvalued and sell them. If the price
drops, they repurchase the shares, return them and pocket the difference.
In a naked short sale, the investor sells stock that has not yet been borrowed.
Sellers sometimes deliberately fail to deliver securities as part of a scheme to
manipulate the stock price.
The emergency rule would require any person making a short sale in the listed
securities to borrow the securities before the short sale is effected and
deliver the securities on the settlement date.
The SEC has already proposed rules to curb naked short selling abuses and
prevent market price manipulation. -
