• Q: pickers, if china is buying commidies, what do they pay for them in, if u.s.
  dollars arent they devesting themselves? or am i thinking wrong? so the buck

• A: China has the renminbi pegged to the dollar. So they aren't trying to devalue the dollar.
  They are instead trying to devalue the renminbi to match the dollar's weakness. So they
  can do that in various ways. They can trade renminbi for commodities. They can trade
  renminbi for dollars and use the dollars to buy us backed securities.
  
  Why does China want this peg? Simple. China is the world's largest exporter. The US is the
  world's largest importer. If the US currency falls too far behind Chinas, then the US will
  import from elsewhere, where the exchange rate is more favorable. more
