A: i don't need a bailout, i'm just gonna separate my debt from my books and wrap it up in a
package and sell it to one of the financials that aren't on the no shorting list. more - Post your own answer

i just saw that gs and ms will morph into banks! should this cause a revaluation
of their share price? if so what would it be? don't they still carry their
losses on mark downs? -

A: GS does not have bad paper. But short was still piling on due to its high leverage. If GS
is allowed to raised cheap capital ( deposit) and certainly know how to use it, they can
maintain a solid balance sheet.
My concern is about their under-writing, trading and hedging. All these have always
been leveraged (LBO, exotic derivatives, Leveraged loan, etc). We need to observe how
these smart people innovate commercial banking. more - Post your own answer
- Q:
'the plan' will not turn the toxic paper at ms and gs to aaa. i assume the gov't
will buy that paper at pennies on the dollar. if so, wouldn't gs and ms still be
stuck with these huge losses on their books? or are they allowing gs and ms to
do reverse repos using this worthless paper as collateral? short sellers or not,
how can ms and gs maintain their share prices and those losses simultaneously?
have i missed the point. -

- Q:
i recently came across a relatively newly listed company that is in the truck
services business. with the rise in diesel fuel they lost more than 1/2 their
market cap. in fact it just keeps spiraling downward.
now here's the question. last i checked they have cash equal to 3x - as in
triple - their market cap. this is after a substantial cash burn for the last 2
years. i can't get my mind around this outfit.
how do you play a stock that has enough $$ to buy itself 3 times. i don't get
it. -

A: Agree with the posts below. The market is probably asking the company what the heck they
are going to do with all of that cash. The cash is probably a result of the cash raised by
issuing new equity from just being listed. Personally this is why I always go beyond the
numbers and try to get a handle of the business and management. You can get a pretty good
idea of how the company is being run and what causes it to perform well or what will
detract. You want to know what they will do in the future as the market constantly
discounts what it believes will happen in 6 months to a year, and in many cases much
longer. more - Post your own answer
