Alchemy: Is it pure stupidity?
Well, 100s of years ago they figured out that it IS stupid to try to turn lead
into gold.
But ever since March, 2009 we have demonstrated that it has been OK to jump into
a pile of sh*t and come out smelling like roses.

- Q:
Strangles (where you buy both puts and calls on the same underlying) are very
expensive, but have the best odds of profiting when volatility is low, as it is
now-a-days.
If you think SPY could go either way: up or down 10% by the end of the year, how

A: My bias is that if, as the focus briefly shifts more toward earnings guidance than QE, SPY
may drop. And whales will buy furiously if SPY drops as low as 110. In that case, SPY Dec
115 puts could be held until SPY reaches 110, then sold, while holding on to the calls.
That's just my consideration. What's yours? more - Post your own answer

What's up with TLAB? Up a lot this week on no news. They have a lot of cash, and
a lot of broadband for all those smart phones. Is there some takeover
speculation here? In the past, TLAB has acquired other companies, possibly to
ward off takeovers. -
