A: Petrobras-Petroleo Brasilier (PBR) has the highest 3-year compound annual growth rate of
any of the major international oils—85%. It maintains a pre-tax margin in the 20% range,

Dan,
I have a question regarding setting stops. When you set them do you usually use
market orders or limit orders? I know that you don't necessarily sell the whole
position when a stop is hit, because you like to trade around a core position.
Just curious to the best approach to the stop. I can see the problems and
benefits of each type (market/limit).
Thanks, -

Dan,
When you run your own account do you trade it like a "hedge fund" in that you
are always long and short something against a long position? Or do you,
depending on market conditions, have a bias for long or short?
p.s. Saw you on Kudlow last night and told my wife how cool you are to answer
all our questions when you really don't have too. Thanks!! -

A: Hi AMZII. Thanks for the nice note. No, I don't run my account like a hedge fund. I'm
either long or short. Never both. (That's neither right nor wrong...it's just my style.
I've got so many moving parts in my life -- personal, professional, physical, etc. -- that
I don't have time to manage conflicting positions. I'd rather adopt a thesis and then
then stick with it as long as it works. When it stops working...it's back to the drawing
board for me.
And happy to help anyone in any way I can. Good karma -- and just the right thing to do
anyway. more - Post your own answer

Dan,
Can you trade options of technicals just like stocks or do you think it's more
important to obey the "greeks"? Stupid question I'm sure, but none the less I'm
curious.
Thanks, -

A: i think this is somewhat of a false dichotomy. both are important in my trading.
if i am doing a stock replacement theory, i better have an option with a high delta or
whats the point?
if it is intended to replace the common, you want it to act as CLOSE to the common as
possible. for that i need higher delta. no real way around this.
but you can also do technical analysis of put/call open interest ratio, among other
things. technical analysis is the study of mass psychology. so where ever there are
people, technical analyis can b applied.
just all depends on HOW you apply it. more - Post your own answer

A: I do trade my own account...though I'm not as active as I used to be. Here's the thing:
trading is a very serious business and many very strong traders trade full time. That's
what it takes to really "compete" in this industry. With all of my various
responsibilities related to trading...it is difficult to compete at the same level as I
used to.
But I'm not retired. I can never retire because I love what I do. If I wasn't doing what
I'm doing now, then I'd be busy wishing I was doing what I'm doing now. As the saying
goes, "I'm livin' the dream." At least, I'm living MY dream. :-) more - Post your own answer
