- Q:
if the government can come out with 3.5% gdp(witch was much better than the
est.) at a time when the market was selling off and people were starting to
question the rally then a month later revise it much lower at 2.8% whats to stop
them from doing this with the unemployment numbers.its way to convenient here at
a time when jobs r the huge topic and people r questioning weather obama and the
dems know what they r doing. its also a huge psychological boost for christmas
shopping.i was more than expecting better nubers due to seasonal hiring but u
have to question the fact we only lost 11,00 jobs.this looks like more proping
by the goverenment just like the GDP ,if u remember the market was selling off
right before the release, then when the "better than expected number" came out
we were back rallying like crazy. -

A: Of course this report is subject to later revision, maybe it will even be revised to
actually show jobs added rather than lost. In fact, the last 2 months' reports were
revised and now they are better than expected too. db more - Post your own answer

A: one other thought . . . on tickerspy, the two worst categories (of 270 sectors) were
gold/silver and canadian mining companies (-4% and -3.8%). Good day to buy in. more - Post your own answer
- Q:
I am very confused. The other day the ADP job numbers were bad... larger
unemployment number for Nov than expected.
Today, the Gov't numbers were UNBELIEVABLY good. How can the numbers be that
far apart. Sounds weird considering the timing around the holiday season.
Wondering if the report was meant to make people feel good so they will go out
and shop and that next month we'll see a large revision downward.
Any thoughts on this? -

A: these two often have gaps in their data. its just impossible to get the exact right
number.
focus on the trend, not the number more - Post your own answer
- Q:
We got a very solid jobs number. Now we need to break through that important spx
1120 level, and hopefully close above that. If so, the bull market may get its
second wind.
Will we get through spx 1120 today or not? -

A: I had not been a big fan of this one, but they seem to be benefiting from improved
sentiment for the group and have gone through a lot of cost-cutting.

When there's any uptick in construction, this one could move back into the double-digits,
though I'd wait for a pullback under $9 before buying. more - Post your own answer
