- Q:
aapl is a great company ,not expensive here at all .but even so its over a 21%
gain since earnings and has not had one day in the red in a month.this looks
like a very over crowded trade as everyone is piling into the only thing that
seems to be working .the market here has been flat now for the last week and
1350 seeems like a big head wind for it.aapl just seems like a momentum pile in
trade here as big money doesent know where to go ,so they just pile into aapl.im
not saying aapl is going to plunge but it does look scary here for the short
term .we could see an easy 50 point drop in this one in a couple days.dont be
the last one to turn off the lights is your still long aapl ... -

Cabot Microelectronics Corporat (CCMP) last $52.70
Cabot Microelectronics Corporation Declares Special Cash Dividend of $15 Per
Share, or Approximately $345 Million in Total, After Closing on Secured Credit
Facility
Easy money and BUY a two month out downside PUT option....
$15 per share, or approximately $345 million in total, payable to shareholders
of record on February 23, 2012, that will be paid on March 1, 2012.
Approximately half of the special cash dividend, along with related fees, will
be funded from the company's available cash
The company understands that this will mean that stockholders who purchase the
company's stock after the record date of February 23, 2012 and before the
ex-dividend date of March 2, 2012 will be entitled to receive the special cash
dividend, and stockholders who sell the company's stock during that same time
period will not be entitled to the special cash dividend. Investors who enter
into trades to purchase the company's stock on or after the ex-dividend date of
March 2, 2012 will not be entitled to the special cash dividend payable on March
1, 2012.

A: well of course i like your play steve, but i am the neighorhood unicorn chaser so take it
for what is is worth. my only reservation is that you may have swung on the news too
early - 9 days is a long time. but if we have no macro sell-off of the market; and/or you
are prepared to double down say the day before the exday if it does go lower, then i think
it was a good call. Special divies are unique opportunities - i played the DISH special
divy last year just a few days before ex and it took me a week to sell at a gain. Of
course it is all timing and a little luck so again, as it early ut you may have gotten the
cheapest price that will be available, if so you can probably sell on its exday for a
small gain and pocket the divy. Just again be prepared to double down the day before if
the stock for whatever reason has sunken lower. Playing a special divy announcment is
similar to playing a secondary announcement done 10 days before the ex date on a huge
payer - e.g. my TNK ticker that sold off 15% on the news of the secondary - got in at 3.97
or 3.96 - 2x - and the ticker is at 4.15 with a day left and an 18% divy payoff. so i may
just sell it tomorrow and take the profit - see how it goes tomorrow (today i guess).
that's another thing you can look at - if you did get lucky enough to pick the bottom of
CCMP and the stock goes up over the next 8 days before ex - you also have the choice of
selling prior and just taking the profits. because on the norm there will be a selloff on
the exdiv of a large pecial div. more - Post your own answer

New Question: Patriot Coal Corporation (PCX) I added another clip here today @
$8.09.....This company is getting attractive here in many ways. Dont forget they
are not all steam coal production....they have met coal also. This stock gets
much cheaper...It will catch a bid/buyer. Dont let the Nat Gas killing coal
story deter you from value or even China import of coal.
When the coal stocks turn....it will be a hard turn up!
I also like what I am seeing in the 3 month chart of Walter Energy (WLT) here at
$71 is a but to a break out that could top 25% or $18 from here to $90 -
